First Church of Christ Scientist, Stamford, CT

About Our Church

Welcome to the website of First Church of Christ, Scientist, 655 Stillwater Road, Stamford, Connecticut.

Stamford’s Christian Science church is one of the worldwide branches of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston Massachusetts.

Mary Baker Eddy founded The Mother Church in 1879 “to commemorate the words and works of our Master, which should reinstate primitive Christianity and its lost element of healing.” (Manual of the Mother Church, p.17)

Our Sunday Morning Services and Wednesday meeting are held in our Church Auditorium. Its modern design is quite simple, providing an atmosphere conducive to deep, spiritual thought.

Sunday Services

The Sunday service, as outlined in the Christian Science Quarterly, is conducted by two Readers elected from the membership.

The Bible (King James Version) and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, by Mary Baker Eddy, are the only preachers; there is no ordained clergy.

The Lesson-Sermon is from one of 26 subjects chosen by Mrs. Eddy, and is comprised of selections from the Bible and correlative passages from Science and Health.

Students of Christian Science study the Lesson-Sermon daily during the preceding week.

On the last Sunday of each month, the Reading Room at the church site will be open at 11:45 for those in the Spanish community wishing to learn more about Christian Science.

Sunday School

Sunday School classes are held year round for young people up to the age of twenty.

The Bible and Science and Health are studied. Students learn to love and trust God, and are taught how to apply spiritual truths to bring about healing in their lives.

Lessons taught include the Ten Commandments, the Lord’s Prayer, the Sermon on the Mount and many inspirational stories of healing from the Bible.

Wednesday Evening Services

The midweek meeting commences with readings from the Bible and Science and Health prepared by the First Reader on topics of the Reader’s choice. This flexibility allows each branch church to respond spiritually to the specific needs of its community.

Following the readings, those present are invited to share testimonies of Christian Science healing and remarks about Christian Science.

Reading Room

Our Christian Science Reading Room is located in our church at the corner of Stillwater and Bridge Streets.

It is a quiet place to pray and study, and is open to the public free of charge. The Bible, Science and Health, and other literature about Christian Science are also available for purchase, as well as Bible reference materials to aid your spiritual discoveries.
